Mind Your Health Podcast with Dr. Connie Cheung

The Mind Your Health Podcast is about all things Gut Health! As a healthcare practitioner with over 25 years of experience, Dr. Connie Cheung focuses on a holistic approach integrating her educational background in Psychology, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, Functional Medicine, and Yoga. She started the Mind Your Health Podcast to help as many people as possible get rid of pesky gut symptoms so that they can look and feel their best while living their fullest lives. Dr. Connie has struggled and lived with life threatening autoimmune conditions, and she’s personally experienced the limitations in our current medical and holistic healthcare systems. She finds that our current health and wellness systems are broken due to their over-emphasis on treating only the parts and pieces of the puzzle, rather than considering the WHOLE body. It’s her mission in life to help those suffering from chronic symptoms or illnesses by helping them get to the TRUE root cause, as opposed to offering surface level approaches that fail to address the whole body. Gut health is the foundation for optimal health. In the Mind Your Health Podcast, Dr. Connie shares her knowledge and personal EXPERIENCE, while providing simple and practical solutions that are not only scientifically based, but timeless and effective which will help deliver long-term vitality and health from the inside-out. Her unique perspective in putting together both Eastern and Western medical concepts in an easy-to-follow framework that you can easily APPLY in your own life will be life changing, giving you confidence in yourself to live your healthiest life. Your mind will be blown at how easy it is to heal your own body when you finally activate your GUT and BRAIN to work together in synergy to have a positive effect on your whole body. You’ll learn that your WHOLE body is bigger than the sum of its parts.

Most of my patients come to me with mysterious symptoms that their doctors just can't seem to figure out. Despite their normal lab results, many of them struggle with chronic fatigue, aches and pains, digestive discomfort issues, weight gain, and sleep problems on a daily basis.

They start to question what's wrong with them, as their doctors can't do much other than prescribe medications. They try to change their diet, exercise more, and take supplements, but nothing seems to help.

The one commonality I've found with all my patients is elevated STRESS levels. So in this episode of the Mind Your Health podcast, I want to dive into the topic of stress and cortisol (the body's main stress hormone), and its impact on all other hormones in the body, which simply put, are chemical messengers in the body that signal our organs to function properly.

Without proper hormone regulation and function, our bodies can't do what they're supposed to do, which leads to undesirable symptoms that interfere with our day to day life.

In this episode, you'll discover:
📌The impact of stress on your physical health and body, and a hidden type of stress that we tend to dismiss or ignore
📌How your HPA axis (controlled by your nervous system) works when you experience stress to impact your digestion, immune system, mood and emotions, and metabolism
📌Signs and symptoms of a dysregulated, stressed-out nervous system
📌An effective tool you can use to start to regulate your nervous system to balance your hormones so that you can get rid of your unwanted symptoms

In the last episode of the Mind Your Health Podcast, Dr. Connie discussed the importance of mindfulness and awareness when it comes to eating for gut healing.

If you haven't listened to last week's episode yet, you can listen by clicking here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep-311-why-following-somebody-elses-diet-plan-will/id1297924924?i=1000616939894

Meditation is an excellent way to cultivate mindfulness and awareness by helping you tune inwards so that your mind can "occupy" your body.

In today's busy world where there's so much fighting for our attention, many of us tend to be "stuck" in our heads. When this happens, we completely ignore the signals and sensations our bodies are constantly sending us about what it needs, and instead we look to everyone else to tell us what to eat – doctors, dietitians, the internet, influencers on social media, etc.

Not only that, but dieting in itself is stressful! This stress puts your body in "fight or flight" mode, but our bodies need to be in "rest and digest" mode for optimal digestion, absorption, detoxification, and elimination.

In this episode, Dr. Connie will take you through a guided meditation to help you cultivate body awareness and shift your energy to promote optimal digestion and gut function.

When it comes to diet and nutrition, we are conditioned to look to everyone else for answers, believing somebody other than ourselves holds the key to our health. This includes our doctors, a dietitian, the internet/social media, or even a close friend or family member who had success with a particular diet.

The truth is that we cannot change that which we're not aware of. And continuing to look for nutrition advice outside of yourself means that you continue to ignore the messages and signals your body sends you about what it needs.

In this episode, Dr. Connie shares how yoga and meditation can help you learn how to read your body signals and sensations to figure out which foods are best for YOUR body.

By listening to this episode, you'll discover...

✨ The importance of mindfulness when eating

✨ The role of yoga and meditation in helping you cultivate self awareness and body awareness, as well as helping you recognize physical symptoms and body sensations attached to your diet

✨ Additional benefits of yoga and meditation on gut health, including stress management, enhanced digestive function, and improved gut muscle contraction
