We are back this week for part 2 of our 3-part series where I share with you my personal story and how Functional Yoga Medicine as a methodology came to be, in hopes that it helps you recognize YOUR role in your health and wellness journey.
In part 2, I'll be talking more about my personal health journey, but more importantly, the PATTERNS I now recognize looking back that I believe contributed to various health struggles I've had along the way. It's true that how you do anything is how you do everything, so I've also realized it was these same patterns that pushed me to continue searching for answers to my autoimmune and gut issues, eventually leading me to create Functional Yoga Medicine as a Self Healthcare System that has not only helped me heal, but many of my patients and clients as well.

This week we are kicking off part 1 of a 3-part podcast series where I'll be sharing my personal story and how Functional Yoga Medicine™ and the Dr. Connie Cheung brand came to be. I've also brought my Integrator, Leslie, on the show to interview me and help me bring out the best parts of my story that I believe will be most beneficial to you. By sharing my story, my hope is that you're able to bring greater awareness to where you are in your own healing journey and figure out exactly what it is that you're needing in order to create the health you want to have.
In part 1, I'll be talking all about RELATIONSHIPS. We all know that good nutrition, exercise, and stress management promote optimal health, but there are many things that fly under the radar that have just as much of an influence on our health – our relationships being one of them. So listen as I share about different relationships from my childhood through my adult years, and how these relationships had a direct effect on my health, despite all the healthy behaviors I thought I was doing right.

Both women and men can experience a belly pooch or belly bulge, along with gut issues such as bloating, gas, constipation, and digestive discomfort. So what do most do? Try to get rid of it with typical weight loss tactics, including dieting and exercising.
But if you have a belly pooch and also struggle with pain (especially low back pain), gut issues, and poor posture, stability, and core strength, the truth is that you might have diastasis recti.
Diastasis recti is when the 6-pack muscles separate from being stretched out, and can cause the belly to bulge out. 60-70% of pregnant women suffer from diastasis recti due to the stretching of the belly during pregnancy.

Most people believe DETOX means getting on a restrictive diet, taking some supplements, or drinking a special juice or tea in order to cleanse the body. But true, effective detox actually involves much more than this.
Our bodies have natural detox processes – our liver, kidneys, lungs, gut, and skin work hard everyday to eliminate toxins and wastes that don't serve us. And while there are ways to optimize the functioning of these organs, a detox program cannot be fully beneficial without also detoxing our HABITS (which include stress and emotional triggers).
It's important to understand that the autonomic nervous system (which runs subconsciously) is driving our habits and our behaviors. So changing our behaviors without addressing our habits at the subconscious level is like trying to mop up water in a flooded room without first turning off the running faucet.
