Dr. Connie has struggled and lived with life threatening autoimmune conditions, and she’s personally experienced the limitations in our current medical and holistic healthcare systems. It’s her mission in life to help those suffering from chronic symptoms or illnesses by helping them get to the TRUE root cause, as opposed to offering surface level approaches that fail to address the whole body. Gut health is the foundation for optimal health. In the Mind Your Health Podcast, Dr. Connie shares her knowledge and personal EXPERIENCE, while providing simple and practical solutions that are not only scientifically based, but timeless and effective which will help deliver long-term vitality and health from the inside-out. The fact that you have symptoms that interfere with your daily life, whether it’s gut discomfort like bloating, gas, constipation, OR fatigue, headaches, foggy brain, weight gain, aches and pains, etc.…

…means you have some level of stress in your life.

Stress equals symptoms. Let me explain…

Stress is part of human nature, and our bodies have a natural stress response that’s designed to keep us safe from danger or threats. You know this response as sympathetic nervous system activation, AKA “fight or flight”.

When this stress response is activated, a mechanism known as the HPA axis triggers a cascade that influences hormone production in the body. This cascade is designed to shut off certain body functions so that our energy can be directed towards facing the stressor in front of us.

Once the danger has passed, the body is designed to turn down the dial on the “fight or flight” response and kick on our “rest and digest” response, controlled by the parasympathetic nervous system.

But in today’s modern era, stress doesn’t just come from predators that force us to run for our lives. And the truth is that most people are living in a constant state of stress, but they don’t even recognize this because it has become their “normal” baseline, despite the negative effects it's having on their bodies.

It’s like constantly stepping on the gas pedal without ever hitting the breaks…eventually the car is going to crash or break down.

So if you’re struggling with adverse symptoms of any kind, it’s crucial that you learn to uncover and manage stress in your life so it doesn’t have destructive effects on your health.

In this episode, you’ll discover…
➡️ How the stress response (via the HPA axis) stumps basic body functions like digestion, intimacy, and sleep…and why this leads to symptoms when we’re constantly in a stress state
➡️ Physiological and emotional responses you can be on the lookout for that indicate stress
➡️ The 3 biggest areas in life that cause stress and how to identify stressful situations you might not be aware of
➡️ 3 things you can to to manage stress once you recognize it

“I wish someone would just tell me what to eat!”

If you’ve ever thought this to yourself, then chances are you can relate to this…

Mealtimes honestly used to feel like a chore to me.

I would stress out over choosing what to eat. And if I was on any type of restrictive diet, it was often difficult figuring out which foods I could eat that would allow me to stick to my diet and not trigger gut discomfort.

After a while, I ended up developing orthorexia, which is a fear of food that stems from being scared to eat. This actually made my gut issues worse!

So imagine if mealtimes didn’t have to be a chore and if choosing what to eat didn’t stress you out…

Most of us are misled into thinking that food itself is the cause of our gut issues or various symptoms, and if only we could find the “perfect” diet, we’d be healed.

But think about how many diets are out there – if there actually was a perfect diet, why are we witnessing rising numbers of illnesses, obesity, and mysterious symptoms?

Let’s talk about why food is not our enemy and how we can shift our relationship with food so that it no longer has to be a source of stress in our lives.

In this episode, you’ll discover:
➡️ Why food is considered an “external input”, and what influences food to have a nourishing effect vs a punishing effect in our bodies
➡️ Causes of gut issues that go beyond the foods we eat
➡️ A simple four step framework you can follow to engineer your wellness and become the master of your own gut, mind, and body

You’re eating a healthy diet, you’re exercising regularly, and you’re doing your best to manage stress. So why aren’t you feeling better yet?!

If this is you, I was in your shoes not too long ago. I always prided myself on being disciplined and working hard, yet my results were not matching up with the efforts I was putting in. And this applied to different areas of my life – especially my health and my business.

I worked with a mentor who taught me something that completely changed the way I looked at my behavior and the action I was taking in my life. And that’s exactly what I share with you in this Mind Your Health episode.

In short, if we’re not seeing the results we want, we need to shift our IDENTITY and the beliefs we hold.

The solution to getting the results we want is NOT taking more action or different action. The solution is taking aligned action by showing up as the version of ourselves who already has our ideal outcomes and desires.

If you’re confused by what this means, that’s okay! This took me a long time to understand, but once I got it, everything changed and I started getting results in my health and life with EASE. And when you tune into this episode, I’ll help you do just that.

By listening to this episode, you’ll discover:
- What “identity” is and where it develops from
- How to uncover your identity and beliefs that create “a glass ceiling”, preventing you from improving your health and life no matter how hard you try
- Steps you can take to shift your identity and take aligned action that’s actually effective

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that relying on doctors, experts, or specialists to figure out the answer to your symptoms will only keep you in a cycle of sickness.

How do I know that?

With my recent struggles with kidney failure, it’s been crucial for me to just find a path forward every single day, even on my hardest days. But it’s been nearly impossible to get a straightforward answer from my medical team.

If you’ve been stuck in the healthcare system, then you know how specialized it is. And this message is for those who have gone from specialist to specialist, or your labs don’t match up with how you’re feeling, so you walk away with less than satisfactory answers.

Each practitioner can either talk to you about the specific organ or body part that’s being affected, or refer you to another specialist if you have questions about another organ or body part that is out of their scope of practice.

So it’s now crystal clear to me that our doctors’ role is to MANAGE our symptoms. But it’s OUR role to BUILD our own health.

If you want to take control of your health once and for all, you have to become your best health advocate. And in this Mind Your Health episode, I share 5 guaranteed ways you can start to build your health back up – but they’re likely not what you’d expect.

Sometimes the answers are right under our nose, but we’re too busy looking for the most complex solutions.

If you’re like most people who struggle with irritating symptoms that they just can’t figure out, whether it’s gut issues like bloating and constipation, chronic fatigue, stubborn weight gain, foggy brain, etc., maybe you’ve gotten stuck on what I call the “hamster wheel” of ineffective health and wellness solutions.

I’ve been there too – going from doctor to doctor or expert to expert, or searching for the next answer, whether that’s a diet, supplement, medication, treatment or program. I can’t even tell you how many books I’ve read on health or how many hours I’ve researched my symptoms on the internet.

And maybe these various approaches have provided some relief, but ultimately the symptoms come right back. OR you end up having new symptoms that you’re left to address. Does the cycle ever end?!

Well let me tell you…I learned a lot in my recent experience with kidney failure. Sometimes the experts we were conditioned to look to don’t always have the answers. And how can they? Outside of your symptoms and the specific body parts or organs associated with your symptoms, they know very little about the rest of your life…

…your home life, your relationships, your stressors (including stress about your health, your finances, your family, your work). ALL of which affects your nervous system regulation.

And guess what? Your nervous system is the control center for every single function within your body.

In other words, your body function is controlled by YOU (via your nervous system), yet we are conditioned to look for an answer OUTSIDE of us. And if you’re starting to think this is a broken strategy…it is.

If you’re serious about eliminating your symptoms and getting off the hamster wheel of ineffective health approaches, then this episode is for you.

By listening to this episode, you’ll discover:
➡️ Why the medical system’s role is to manage disease, NOT to create health
➡️ How your nervous system is influenced by YOU, not by supplements, diets, exercise, treatments, or programs that are outside of you
➡️ The exact steps you can take to regulate your nervous system to cause EASE in your body, versus DIS-EASE that leads to symptoms and sickness

If you haven’t listened already, click here to check out last week’s episode on “Your Symptom Root Cause Might Be Something You Can’t See, Measure, or Test”.

If you've ever been confused about your symptoms and you know there's something that's not quite right with you, yet your doctors just shrug their shoulders because your labs come back "normal", then this episode is for you.

I have a unique perspective when it comes to the medical system because I've not only studied various health disciplines, including Psychology, Nutrition, and Physical Therapy, but I've been a patient with complicated health issues that cause doctors to scratch their heads. And when my labs and data don't match up with what they've studied or experienced in their practice, they're unable to provide me with any solutions...which doesn't help me as the patient and I'm left to figure things out on my own.

I started to recognize that emotional events that caused distress and unease in my life, like an unhealthy marriage and difficulties with a family member, were directly correlated to flare ups in my health.

And while the doctors can provide me with lots of knowledge and data about my labs and symptoms, they don't see me as a WHOLE person, failing to consider my home life, relationships, stressors, patterns, triggers...all of which influence my lab results and data.

This is when I realized that health is something only I can create for myself, rather than relying on "experts" to figure it out for me. So if you've gone from practitioner to practitioner and continue to leave with very little answers and solutions for your health concerns, it's time for you to take a different approach.

In this episode, you'll discover:

➡️ My personal experience with both conventional and holistic medicine, and the insights I gained from the practitioner perspective and the patient perspective.

➡️ The difference between YOUR role and your doctor's role in your healthcare, and how to identify a good practitioner that's invested in your well-being.

➡️ 3 questions I ask all my patients to uncover the true root cause of their issues.

➡️ How to uncover unease in your life that might be contributing to your symptoms, and practical tools to help you cultivate self-awareness so that YOU become your best health expert.

This week's Mind Your Health podcast is a special one. I interviewed my colleague and friend Aaron, who is a successful entrepreneur. He's special because it took many years for him to finally understand the "root" cause of his mysterious symptoms and go within to uncover the hidden traumas that many of us unknowingly struggle with.

When traumas and emotional events happen to us throughout our life, the effects of these events become "stuck" in our nervous system and influence the outcomes in our lives, including our health. Whether it's a breakup, divorce, the death of a loved one, job loss, financial struggles, family issues, etc., we all experience losses and hardships, which makes us all human. Yet even though the event has passed, so many of us hold onto the memory of it, which unconsciously determines our future. And this is why many people tend to "relive" the past over and over again.

This is why I consider Yoga a powerful tool to heal ourselves from the inside-out because it reflects our mind back to us, allowing us to process, metabolize, and let go of circumstances and events that don't serve our well-being. Being aware of our tendencies to stay stuck in the past or project fear onto the future keeps us in a loop of suffering and misery.

You don't want to miss this powerful episode where we uncover the depths of the human mind with authenticity and vulnerability to find our inner power. I hope you enjoy, and please leave us a comment if you resonate – we want to hear from you!

Hormones are chemical messengers that impact your overall health and metabolism, and hormones play a huge role in weight loss.

If you've been struggling with weight gain, hormonal imbalance may be the culprit. When we think of hormones, we typically think of sex hormones like testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. But there are other hormones that exist in the body and all hormones interact together to produce a metabolic effect in your body.

In this week's Mind Your Health podcast, we discuss the vital role your hormones play in your weight and metabolism, and more importantly, what you can do to balance your hormones and achieve your ideal weight with ease.

Be sure to tune into this episode to discover...

-How all hormones work together in the body to create balance...or dysfunction, including weight gain

-How your mind and emotions influence your hormone functioning (and are more powerful than hormone replacement therapy)

-How you can finally break the cycle of hormone dysregulation and be free from symptoms and weight gain

We have aspects of ourselves that we are "aware" (conscious) of, and we also have aspects of ourselves that we are "unaware" (subconscious) of. But did you know that the subconscious parts of you actually dictate your self image and how you see yourself? And how we see ourselves dictates our abilities and what we are capable of.

This is significant because while most of us think we are aware and in control over what we say and do, a more substantial part of us may be sabotaging our very efforts, especially when it comes to our health, and this can negatively affect the results we're trying to create for ourselves. And this all happens without us even being aware of it! 🤯

So what creates this subconscious "script" which dictates our beliefs and behaviors? Often, it forms in childhood as a result of various emotional experiences we had, positive or negative. These experiences become the "baseline" by which we live the rest of our lives.

In this episode of the Mind Your Health Podcast, Dr. Connie shares her childhood conditioning and trauma that was revealed to her later in life, and how the subconscious beliefs she formed early on led her to create an identity that silently told her she was not good enough, which led her to abuse her body and mind through overexercise and over dieting, just to feel good enough about herself.

In this episode, you'll discover...

✅ The effect of your parents' or caregivers' beliefs and values on how you live your life today

✅ Subtle forms of trauma that we tend to overlook, yet have a tremendous effect on our mental and physical health

✅ Tools you can use to help you look within and become aware of generational patterns and beliefs that are keeping you from achieving the health and life you want to have

If you struggle with feeling good about yourself, or just can't seem to achieve the health results you want despite everything you try, this may drastically change your perspective. It's a must-listen!

Spark Passion in Your Relationship Through Self-Love, Trust, and Honesty

If you are like most, you didn't exactly learn how to set healthy boundaries or the ability to communicate authentically in your home.  This single, profound realization can catapult your relationships to a new level, especially with your partner.

How do I know? I've spent years frustrated with various relationships, trying to "fix" my partner, only to learn patterns in my thoughts, feelings, and actions that were contributing to my angst.  Frankly, I used to think relationship problems were all my partner's fault, and only when I began to "own" my part in the matter was I able to cultivate a loving relationship that I had only dreamt of before.

Relationships can make or break you. They're something worth fighting for, but I meet many patients who have built self-protecting barriers without realizing it, which effect how they show up in their relationships.

The truth is that most of us didn't learn healthy communication or boundaries growing up, and it becomes a real problem for us as adults. There are patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may be rooted in generational trauma.

So, if you want to create the loving relationship you've always wanted, it's time to get honest with yourself because the only way to upgrade your relationship skills is to be truthful about who you are.  Do differently and listen to this power-packed episode all about finding that spark and passion in your relationship!

Here's what you'll discover in this episode:

  • Why self-awareness and communication play a role in the health of your relationships
  • How to own your emotional baggage (which every person has) so that it doesn't tarnish your connection with your partner
  • Using self love and your partner's love language to ignite a fresh new spark that leads to deeper connection

Do you feel like you are eating all the right things, but still can’t get your weight to budge? In today's episode of Mind Your Health Podcast, my team and I gathered the most frequently asked questions about weight loss that I get as a Registered Dietitian, including the complex relationship between our emotions, self-perception, and changing eating habits.

Whether we realize it or not, our identity and the beliefs ingrained in us from childhood about beauty and self-worth shape our confidence and can lead to negative self-talk, where we subconsciously diminish our own value.

This negative internal dialogue can have profound effects on our actions, including our eating habits.

And of course... stress, an inevitable part of life, also plays a crucial role in weight management. It triggers the release of hormones like cortisol, which can lead to stress eating, a common coping mechanism for emotional discomfort.

And what about the specific foods that contribute to weight gain? It's not just about quantity, but also the quality and types of food we consume. These topics, along with our emotions, ranging from stress to sadness, can influence our eating habits, often leading us to seek comfort in food.

I even tap into what emotional weight in personal relationships and friendships can look like/ Recognizing the emotions that trigger overeating is crucial in addressing weight gain.

Today's episode underscores the complex aspects of weight loss and the need to understand the emotional and psychological factors that influence our eating habits.

Tune in today if you're interested in...

🌿 How negative self-talk impacts eating habits and weight gain

🌿 Understanding why stress triggers hormonal eating responses

🌿 Why emotions and hormones significantly affect weight... and how to overcome this.

Most people believe DETOX means getting on a restrictive diet, taking some supplements, or drinking a special juice or tea in order to cleanse the body. But true, effective detox actually involves much more than this.

Our bodies have natural detox processes – our liver, kidneys, lungs, gut, and skin work hard everyday to eliminate toxins and wastes that don't serve us. And while there are ways to optimize the functioning of these organs, a detox program cannot be fully beneficial without also detoxing our HABITS (which include stress and emotional triggers).

It's important to understand that the autonomic nervous system (which runs subconsciously) is driving our habits and our behaviors. So changing our behaviors without addressing our habits at the subconscious level is like trying to mop up water in a flooded room without first turning off the running faucet.

This is why, despite the best intentions and knowledge, many people have a hard time maintaining weight loss, healthy habits, or lasting results.
In this episode of the Mind Your Health Podcast, you'll discover:
📌What our detox organs require in order to drive the detox processes in our bodies (which is the reason why most detox programs and cleanses are ineffective)
📌Why your habits are the foundation of a successful detox, and why self awareness is an essential pillar for lasting health changes
📌What you can experience when you learn how to detox your body EFFECTIVELY, including decreased bloating, enhanced digestion, and improved energy
📌Mindfulness practices that promote effective detox and self awareness
Want to learn how to detox your mind and body? Take our free “How Toxic Am I” Quiz to find out what factors in your everyday life are attributing to your toxin levels and how to efficiently detox them out of your system!

As the New Year is approaching, we all have our resolutions and habits we want to break. Let's dive back into a popular episode, where I explore the power of our subconscious mind!

Our subconscious mind plays a significant role in our daily decision-making process. It encompasses thoughts, beliefs, and emotions that operate beneath the surface of our conscious awareness. While we may not always be fully aware of its influence, it profoundly impacts our actions and choices. Past experiences, conditioning, and memories stored in the subconscious shape our perceptions and responses to various situations.

Yoga, on the other hand, is the key to tapping into our subconscious wiring. It encourages us to dive deeper into our thoughts and emotions, unlocking the hidden layers of our subconscious. As we engage in self-reflection and self-awareness on the mat, we can identify and address limiting beliefs and negative thought patterns that have been shaping our behavior.

In this episode, you will discover:

🌿 The influence of the subconscious mind in our everyday life, and the reason we tend to fall back into old patterns and habits
🌿 How Yoga can change our subconscious patterns
🌿 How to use the subconscious mind to overcome limiting beliefs that may be preventing you from achieving the health you desire to have

What is missing in our current healthcare system? Often, healthcare providers fail to address the root issue of what is going on, simply putting a "bandaid" on the patient's physical symptoms. For years, as a practitioner and a patient, I saw and personally suffered from this gap in healthcare, which kept me from feeling better.

For many, there is an endless cycle of being sick, feeling okay for a while, then feeling sick again. Why does this happen? Because no one is going deep enough to figure out what the problem is. We are so used to a "pill for every ill" solution or a simple diagnosis that we forget we are a whole being experiencing emotional, spiritual and physical traumas that can create “dis-ease” or imbalance inside of us.

With years of experience, piecing together academic and ancient practice, I have come up with the EASE Method. This method lays the foundation for holistic healing in every aspect of your physical and energetic being. The EASE Method is how transformational healing happens, beyond the scope of our current health care system.

In this episode, you will learn:
✨ What the EASE Method is and how it came to be
✨ How to apply the EASE Method in your everyday life
✨ Why this method is the foundation for true, integrative healing

This method pulls functional medicine and western medicine together in a way that makes sense…using the ancient practice of yoga to cultivate a true way of knowing our bodies from the inside-out.
